Research Collaboration

Philosophy

Our collaborative approach allows the statistician to be an integral member of the research team which fosters education in both directions. The statistician learns the science, thereby ensuring the analysis is scientifically focused and practical. In turn, the researchers gain an appreciation for the statistical methods and limitations, and their intrinsic value.

Grant preparation

Importantly, Stat Lab consultants should be brought into the grant preparation process as early as possible to contribute to study design and data collection decisions. New collaborations are welcomed! However, because we are often working at full capacity, there may be a wait time. The more detailed the information you share about your project, the better we will be able to estimate the amount of time required for us to assist.

Budgeting for statistical support

For ongoing, long-term grants or departmental support requiring a variety of services, we work with you to determine the appropriate % FTE (percent of a Full-Time Employee) level for the statistician(s) assigned to your project. If you cannot pay %FTE, non-specific mechanisms of support may exist.

For short-term projects requiring specific services within a limited time frame, hourly rates are available. These are currently $125 per hour for the UArizona community; the first hour is free. Negotiated rates for those outside the UArizona community depend on scope of work and travel costs (if incurred).

Authorship

Stat Lab consultants typically contribute to methods and results for presentations and papers as co-authors. A conversation about authorship expectations should take place early on in the collaboration.
